Installed is not working

Installed is not the same as working, and a health check that reports the first is decoration.

The bridge depends on a native backend for locking. The easy check is whether the package is present. The check it does instead is to acquire a real lock and release it, in a bounded temporary subprocess, and fail if that does not happen.

Every layer of this system has the same distinction available. An agent binary existing is not the agent answering. A route being configured is not a handoff arriving. A store being present is not its schema being one you understand.

It costs more. The probe spawns a process and has to be bounded so a hang does not become the diagnosis. That is the price of a check whose green means something.

The question I now ask of any status output: if this were broken, which of these lines would change? If the answer is none of them, the output is a list of intentions.
